Anglia Late Edition - November 2012
This month's Anglia Late Edition looks at the political implications of the Corby by-election and the first elections for Police and Crime Commissioners. Labour won the Corby seat back from the Conservatives on a 13% swing in the party's first by-election victory against the Tories in 15 years. Turnout in the Police Commissioner elections was the lowest ever in a national election: in the Anglia region one million people voted but six million didn't bother.
Alastair Stewart debates political issues affecting the Anglia region with a studio panel of local politicians. They are the new Labour MP for Corby Andy Sawford, the Conservative MP for Wellingborough Peter Bone and Cllr Henry Vann, a Liberal Democrat councillor on Bedford Borough Council.
The other issues covered were calls within the Conservative Party for a referendum on Europe and the Mid Bedfordshire MP Nadine Dorries going off to the Australian jungle to appear in ITV's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here during parliamentary time.
