Man jailed for stealing diamond ring worth £100,000

A man has been jailed for five years after stealing a ring priced at nearly £100,000 from a jewellery store in King's Lynn.

David Stephenson, aged 37 and from Malvern Avenue in Doncaster, was imprisoned for five year and three months after being sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court.

The theft happened at Francis Wain jewellers on Norfolk Street in the afternoon of Tuesday 4 October 2011.

The ring’s retail price was £99,500 and was a Picchiotti white gold ring, with a large emerald cut diamond, surrounded by baguette diamonds.

Stephenson entered the shop and looked at one particular cabinet. When the assistant finished serving her customer she then assisted Stephenson who looked at a couple of items, one being the ring. He then snatched the ring and ran out of the store.

Investigating officer DC Richard Moden from King’s Lynn said: “This was an audacious and brazen theft from the jewellery store. Stephenson has also been convicted of similar thefts across the country so to see him jailed for over five years is of great satisfaction.”
