A woman accused of killing a retired bus conductor in Norwich, today claimed it was her civil partner who carried out the attack that left him dying.
31-year-old Jodie Barnes began giving evidence at Norwich Crown Court. She and her partner Kelly are jointly charged with murdering Barry Reeve in February last year. They've pleaded not guilty.
Jodie told the jury they went to Mr Reeve's house, hoping he would lend them money. Both had been drinking and taking hard drugs.
She claimed Mr Reeve wanted sex with Kelly and as he began trying to remove her clothing "Kelly kicked off and began hitting, kicking and shouting. It was pretty horrific," said Jodie Barnes, who admitted taking Mr Reeve's wallet from his pocket as he lay on the floor.
Questioned by her barrister, she said she didn't realise Mr Reeve's injuries were life threatening. When she gave evidence earlier in the trial, Kelly Barnes said Jodie had confessed to her that she'd killed Mr Reeve. The trial continues
