The British Antarctic Microlight Expedition was officially launched on Tuesday in London.
The team is preparing to train seven disabled military service personnel to be the first people to fly microlight aircraft to the South Pole.
The challenge is scheduled to take place in December 2014 and combines the efforts of the Flying for Freedom organisation along with Help for Heroes.
The flying will be led by Richard Meredith-Hardy who comes from Radwell near Baldock in Hertfordshire.
ITV Anglia has spoken to Richard about the expedition. You can see the full report here.
One of the former servicemen taking part is Jamie Hull from Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire.
