Pub puts horse meat on the menu

It’s been two weeks since it emerged that Tesco were selling beefburgers that were found to contain horsemeat. But a pub in Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex has decided to cash in on the scandal, by hosting a special gourmet night with horse on the menu.

The Victory will be putting horse burgers, horse stroganoff and horse haunch steak on its menu tonight. The landlord Sam Bettany says it’s proving popular with tables in the restaurant sold out.

On 15th January, Irish food inspectors had found almost 30% horsemeat in one brand of beefburgers sold by Tesco. Smaller amounts were found in beefburgers sold by Iceland, Lidl and Aldi and Dunnes. The contaminated products have been removed from shop shelves.
