Work has started to complete the Great Dunmow northern bypass. The £1 million road finishes the 2 km bypass which will take traffic away from the centre of the town.

The cost of the whole single carriageway road is £5 million.

The final 600-metre section will be complete by early 2014.

“For people who have been driving past here for so long, wondering when they are going to see work start, I’m sure this will be a welcome sight. Once the work has been completed the new bypass will benefit all the people of Great Dunmow.”

– Jim Ketteridge, Leader of Uttlesford Council

The new road will link the B184 from Saffron Walden and Thaxted to the B1256 to the west of Great Dunmow.

Uttlesford District Council has been working with the Wickford Development Company to bring forward the delivery of the bypass as part of an application for 125 more houses on the Woodlands Park development.
