Community clean up at River Great Ouse

A volunteer project to refresh the area along the riverside foot and cycle paths in Bedford will start this weekend.

Rivercare events bring volunteers together to clean and improve the River Great Ouse. Last year’s clean up events collected over 100 bags of litter as well as other bulky items such as a scooter, an empty cash box and a number of shopping trolleys.

“This is a great opportunity for communities to get together and help to look after and improve the River Great Ouse.

– Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough

The Rivercare event will be supported by two diving groups and the Viking Kayak Club as well as students from the University of Bedfordshire.

The event runs 10am to 12 noon on Saturday 27th April.

“The vast majority of local residents are rightly proud of the river and that is demonstrated by the number of people who regularly come out and support these events.”

– Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough
