Over 3,000 runners took part in the Milton Keynes Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday. There were competitors from all over the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. The warm weather made the 26.2-mile course even more of a challenge but it was certainly appreciated by the spectators.

The Mayor of Milton Keynes got the runners on their way at 10am after a 30 seconds silence to reflect on the events of the Boston Marathon. The winner was Edward Catmur in a time of 2:46:59 followed by Stephen Hodges in 2:47:13 and James Gordon in 2:47:44. In the women's race, the winner was Andrea Green in 3:04:23, with Rebecca Mayles in second position in 3:08:29 and Sally Baker in third in 3:10:42.
