A team of online volunteers have helped to restore a crinkled photograph of a Milton Keynes war veteran, after an appeal from his grandson.
Steve Withey challenged users of Reddit.com to transform the picture of his grandfather.
Derek Withey, now 87, served in the Royal Navy during the second world war and was posted to Hong Kong shortly after VJ day in August 1945.
It was here that Mr Withey posed for a photograph to mark his time in the forces; the only portrait image that he kept of himself in his uniform.
Mr Withey's grandson, Steve, subsequently posted an appeal on an internet website challenging the online community to restore the photograph to its former glory.
Contributions from as far afield as Philadelphia meant that Steve could present his grandfather with six restored images just three weeks later.
Derek Withey told ITV News Anglia that he was staggered with the end result of the transformation.

I thought it was wonderful, I was really surprised. I just asked my grandson one day if he could do something about the photograph and I was just amazed with the results. I'm really grateful.
