The animals at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire have been finding ways to cool off as the summer weather starts to hot up.

The temperature had reached 21°C / 70°F at Charsfield near Ipswich in Suffolk by 11am on Friday and is expected to top 28°C / 82°F over the weekend.

Baby elephant Scott is aged 18 months and uses sand to cool off. The zoo says elephants cover themselves in mud or sand - the layer of dirt keeps them cool and acts as sunscreen.
