Bletchley man on trial for murder

In December 2000, Rachel Manning's body was found in undergrowth at Woburn Golf Club in Milton Keynes.

The 19 year old had been strangled. She had 17 separate injuries to her face.

Today at Luton Crown court, Shahidul Ahmed went on trial accused of her murder. It's a charge the 41 year old restaurant worker from Bletchley denies.

The jury was shown CCTV of what are thought to be the last hours of her life - RM in a bright blue wig, on a night out with friends in Milton Keynes. She went missing later that night. The prosecution allege that Shahidul Ahmed picked her up from a phone box.... they say he strangled her, then dumped her body 8 miles away. Today the court heard how his DNA was found on her clothing, and on a steering lock used to beat her after she died.

Rachel's boyfriend at the time, Barri White, had been with her earlier that evening. He was convicted of her murder in 2002 and He served 6 years in prison... But in 2008 there was a retrial, and Barri White was acquitted.

This is the 2nd time Shahidul Ahmed has gone on trial accused of her murder. At the first trial earlier this year the jury failed to reach a verdict.

The trial is expected to last 5 weeks.
