Anglia Weather: Stormy conditions

Locally bright in the east at first. Outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain will spread eastwards across all parts during the day, together with southerly gales, perhaps occasionally severe gales. Rain will clear later, but still windy during the evening.

A further spell of widespread rain, heavy in places, is likely to spread northeastwards across much of the UK on Wednesday clearing eastwards from southern areas on Wednesday evening. Following earlier heavy rainfall, the public should be aware of the potential for further flooding in places.

Weather warning for strong winds valid from 10am Wednesday to 3am Thursday covering edford, Cambridgeshire, Central Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Luton, Norfolk, Peterborough, Southend-on-Sea, Suffolk, Thurrock, Northamptonshire, Rutland, Lincolnshire, Milton Keynes

A vigorous area of low pressure is expected to move northeastwards across northern parts of the UK later on Wednesday, clearing eastwards early on Thursday. This is likely to be accompanied by a swathe of southwesterly gales across many areas which will be severe in places. Winds will veer more westerly later on Wednesday.

A first peak in the winds is likely over southwest England around the middle of Wednesday but with the main swathe of even stronger and potentially damaging winds crossing parts of Wales then northern England later in the day (see Amber warning).

The public should be prepared for the the risk of disruption to transport and possibly also power supplies. In addition, large waves are likely to affect some coasts.

Winds in the Anglia region could gust to speeds in excess of 60 mph especially along the East coast.
