Just ten days after her twelfth birthday Charlie Spriggs swam the Channel as a thank you to doctors who'd saved the life of her granddad - the man she calls Pops. He'd been diagnosed with lung cancer that was thought to be inoperable but surgeons at Papworth managed to save him.
Charley from South Hanningfield in Essex completed the relay swim in August alongside her dad, uncle and aunt. To cover the 21 miles they each spent two hours in the water, getting to France in 12 hours and 15 minutes.
It was an extraordinay challenge and one that's helped raise fifteen thousand pounds for Papworth hospital - and all because surgeons saved her Pops!
