A soldier from Essex who was killed at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 is to be featured in a five-year special stamp series by the Royal Mail to commemorate the First World War.

The portrait of Private William Tickle, who was just 15 when he joined up, is the first of six stamps to be produced. There will eventually be 30 in the collection.

Pte Tickle's stamp goes on sale in July.

The picture is one of thousands that were donated to the Imperial War Museum after the war.
