Police have named the man who died in Colchester’s Castle Park and are asking the public to remain vigilant as no suspect has yet been traced.
The man's been provisionally identified as James Attfield, also known as Jim, 33, of East Bay, Colchester.
He was found by a member of the public in Castle Park, just before 5.45am on Saturday. Paramedics tried to treat him but he died of serious stab wounds to his upper body, including to his head and hands. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place today.A cordon remains on an area about 1.5 miles long between Wakefield Close and Riverside Place, covering a footpath and grassy area. Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are working to piece together Jim’s movements on Friday evening in to Saturday morning. Anyone who may have seen him in Colchester town centre or in Castle Park is urged to get in touch. Police are also seeking information about a man who was seen walking along East Hill at 5.30am on Saturday.
Police in Colchester say more officers will be on patrol in the area.
