There's a promise of faster and more reliable train journeys on the East Coast mainline. £2.7 billion is to be spent on nearly 500 new carriages to run on the line, which serves Stevenage and Peterborough.

The new trains will have nearly 20% more seats and reduce journey times by up to 15 minutes. The new stock, which are being built in Britain by Hitachi Rail, will come into service in four years time.
