Conservative majority: 5
The Conservatives are clinging onto a narrow majority on Brentwood Council after some defections in recent years. The Tories have had control of the council since 2004.
Four Conservative councillors resigned from the Tory group in November 2012 and set up their own group - Brentwood First in February 2013.
The Liberal Democrats are the main opposition and were the controlling group from 1992 until 2003.
