Artists are transforming a building site into a model development. The site in North West Cambridge is being turned into a scale model of the 3,000 new homes an shops which will soon occupy the site.

It's being led by artist Karen Guthrie, who was inspired by the archaeological dig currently taking place on the site.

We though about what we could do to help the public engage with the future in the same way as archeologists are helping people engaging in the past.

We felt it was something about the site, something about the soil, something about that manual labour, the communal activity and we came up with the idea of this cob based material - something out of the soil itself."

It's being built from an ancient building material known as cob - which is a mixture of mud and straw.

The model represents phase one. It includes a representation of the primary school. There's also a supermarket and community centre.

There's an open day to see the cob project on Saturday.
