Diabetes campaigner Jenny Hirst from Northampton has been awarded an MBE for her 10-year battle on behalf of patients. Jenny, co-chair and co-founder of the charity InDependent Diabetes Trust, campaigned for people to be allowed to continue using animal insulin instead of genetically engineered insulin, which caused adverse reactions to thousands of people with the condition. The 71-year-old, of East Park Parade, has worked tirelessly for people with diabetes since
her daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes almost 40 years ago, first as a trustee for
the British Diabetic Association (now Diabetes UK) and then for IDDT.
A canal volunteer is also among those awarded honours in Northamptonshire to mark the Queen's Birthday. David Blagrove is made an MBE. He's chairman of the The Friends of The Canal Museum at Stoke Bruene.
