Rogue builders jailed for conning pensioners

A gang of rogue traders who conned victims as old as 99 out of their life savings has been jailed for a total of nearly 28 years.

The six men who operated around Clacton and Colchester, preyed on people who lived alone, the seriously ill and even those with dementia.

Police believe they may have made up to five million pounds by overcharging as many as 140 victims for shoddy building work - 22 of those elderly victims have since died.

Detectives say the conmen were carrying out the "sickest" and "saddest" of crimes.
