The drive is on to boost our region's blood supplies over Christmas. NHS Blood and Transplant wants to encourage more people to roll up their sleeves and keep giving ahead of the festive period. Hospitals across the country use 7,000 units of blood every 24 hours but at this time of year stocks drop dramatically
Blood donors help save the lives of thousands of people every year. But in the run up to Christmas, supplies drop dramatically. Last year one in five blood donor appointments were missed over the festive period, but in the next six weeks about 210,000 donations are needed to keep hospital stocks going.
NHS Blood and Transplant say just four per cent of those who can give blood do. They hope more people will roll up their sleeves this Christmas, and give a gift that could help save someone's life.
