They won't be able to return to work for months and Kirsty's family are now fundraising to help ease their financial burden.

In their first television interview, Kirsty's family have described her as an inspiration.

"My daughter is a very strong, determined girl. She still has a very dry sense of humour, she is still very positive - she's a credit to me.

Radley and Kirsty have a great love for each other and that will see them through, but at the moment it's still very raw and very painful.

But I am spending more time with my daughter and she is an inspiration to me."

For Kirsty and Radley the long road to recovery has only just begun.

But her family know it's a journey they will get through together.
