Bumper year for Brussels sprouts

Andrew Wheldon’s been growing Brussels sprouts near Sudbury for 7 years and in that time he’s never had a crop like it.

Not only are they bigger, there are plenty of them too.

“This year we've had an extremely warm autumn and they've just continued to grow and they’re much bigger than they usually are . They’re anything up to about 5cm. Normally one would expect about 3 and a half cm or so, so the very long growing season, the very warm autumn has just meant they've kept on growing.”

It’s good news for anyone making the Christmas dinner as they're easier to prepare and you won’t need as many.

“They peel nicely. They won’t take much longer to cook and they’re just the same, just bigger. We've obviously had a very good autumn and they’re in abundance.”
