McGreal hoping to bring 'feel good factor' back to Colchester United

New Colchester United manager John McGreal says he's hoping to bring a 'feel good factor' back to the club under his leadership.

The U's were relegated to League Two for the first time in 18 years last week following a 3-0 defeat to Burton Albion.

Former boss Kevin Keen decided to leave once their fate was confirmed, and the club moved quickly to name under 21s coach McGreal as his successor.

We haven't won as many games as we'd like last season, and the seasons before.

We're hoping now to get that feel good factor back and start winning games of football, getting the fans right behind us and looking to move the club forward.

McGreal is the third internal appointment made by chairman Robbie Cowling in recent years following Joe Dunne and Tony Humes' progression to the hotseat.

The approach has been criticised by some supporters, but Cowling says it's a tradition he intends to stick with.

This year we made an external change, and it didn't work for us.

I personally believe staying internal is the right way to go and it's important for us a club we don't throw away what we're building.
