Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford sent a timely reminder to England boss Sam Allardyce after he hit a hat-trick on his debut for the Under-21s in Colchester last night.

The 18-year-old opened the scoring just before the half hour mark, before adding two more after the break.

Chelsea players Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker were also on target to wrap up a convincing win in front of 8,454 fans at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The victory means England are now two points clear the top of the European qualifying group, with a couple of games left to play.

Rashford was a surprise inclusion for the match in Essex after being overlooked by Allardyce for his first senior squad.

However, Allardyce couldn't have failed to have been impressed by Rashford's reaction as he watched the action from the stands.

England have now won on all three visits to Colchester, scoring 14 goals in the process.
