Southend University Hospital is currently responding to a major incident of a fuel leak in its maternity unit.
Firefighters have been called to a large diesel leak on the third floor of Southend Hospital.
Fire crews are working to stop the leak and are waiting for a specialist cleaning company to attend the scene to clear up the spill.
The second and third floors of the building has been evacuated, and parts of the first and ground floors are partially evacuated as a precaution. Crews are monitoring CO2 levels on all floors using detection equipment.
The hospital has been closed to patients and visitors, and all emergencies are being taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
