Man charged after stand-off with police in Suffolk village

A 43-year-old man has been charged after a three-day stand-off with police at a quiet Suffolk village.

Officers were called to a home in Crowfield, near Stowmarket, on 16 January out of concerns for the welfare of a man inside.

There was a large police presence in the village until 18 January.

Police say the matter was "resolved peacefully" when the man left the house at around 3.30pm and was detained by officers.

Officers also recovered four firearms.

Mark Clarke, of Stone Street, Crowfield was first taken into police custody. Following an assessment, the was then placed in the care of health professionals.

He was released from their care yesterday (30 January), and was re-arrested by police.

He has been charged with three offences:

  • Making threats to kill
  • Possession of a shotgun with intent to cause fear of violence
  • Possession of a shotgun without a certificate

Clarke is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today.
