Children from across the country are taking part in a robotics competition in Cambridge using machines they've designed themselves.

The aim is to inspire the engineers of the future, as Britain faces a serious shortage of skilled people in the industry.

Sixty teams have to compete with their robots across seven challenges to earn points and win prizes. Robots are all controlled by a Raspberry Pi computer- which was designed in Cambridge. The company says the competition has a serious purpose.

"We need engineers, desperately need engineers, people who can think through problems, and kids have got to get into it early, to understand what it's all about. And building robots is so much fun and they learn so much from it."

– Tim Richardson, Raspberry Pi
