Three months after a driving instructor warned of the dangers of a road bend in Essex, a young woman has died in a crash there.

It comes just months after Mark Cole, a driving instructor from Wrabness, had spoken to ITV Anglia about the dangers.

He said he had warned the council about the corner, but they had failed to do anything.

My initial reaction is one of shock and bewildered awe at the lack of action from Essex County Council. The lack of timely action especially given the campaign to try to get safety measures put in place here, the work that the association has done to put a risk assessment in place.

We've even put a blueprint in place that Essex County Council could have followed and having addressed the local highways panel in January and having been rebuffed, it just leaves me completely speechless.

– Mark Cole, Driving Instructor

In a statement about Carys’s death, her family called her a vibrant, talented woman.

Carys was vibrant, intelligent, vivacious, and a totally loved daughter and sister, who was adored by all who knew her.

She was so full of life and truly touched the heart and souls of everyone that knew and loved her.

Carys had a talent for sport and a passion for cricket, playing for three local clubs.

She had hundreds of friends who just loved to be in her company. She had a sparkle that always lit up a room and she was a ray of sunshine to us all.

We cannot find the words to describe the utter devastation that we as a family and her friends are feeling.

– Family statement

The Council say they will look into making the road safer, but won’t comment fully on the incident until the police investigation into the crash is finished.

We were saddened to hear of this tragic death and our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this sad time. Essex Highways will fully investigate the collision in conjunction with our colleagues at Essex Police, as we do for all fatal road incidents. It would be inappropriate to comment further until these investigations have taken place.
