Gervonta Davis v Liam Walsh: Norfolk hero ready for date with destiny

Norfolk boxer Liam Walsh insists that he can pull off an upset by beating reigning IBF super-featherweight champion Gervonta Davis in their world title fight on Saturday night.

22-year-old American Davis is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the sport, having won all 17 of his professional bouts so far, with 16 of those victories coming via knockouts.

However, Walsh also boasts an unbeaten record and will have home advantage at the Copper Box Arena in London.

Despite that, Davis will start as the big favourite although Walsh is convinced that he has the tools at his disposal to get his hands on the belt.

No man is unbeatable, everyone is unbeatable.

I've gone over it millions of times and every time I go over it in my head, it happens differently.

Sometimes I visualise us just going hammer and tongs, but then I visualise a tactical affair where you've got to be smart.

We're not really going to know until that bell rings.

In many ways, it's incredible that Gervonta Davis has made it to this point.

His upbringing in Baltimore was blighted by his parents' struggles with drug abuse, the loss of friends to rival gangs and constant worries about where the next meal would come from.

It was Boxing that turned out to be his saviour though as his natural battling spirit, coupled with no shortage of talent, caught the eye of the legendary Floyd 'Money' Mayweather.

Since that point, Mayweather has treated Davis like a son and moulded him into a truly world-class operator - culminating in a shock win over Puerto Rican champion José Pedraza in New York a few months ago.

This will be the first time he's fought outside the States, but you can guarantee that Davis won't be fazed by the challenge facing him.
