Peterborough United have signed Luton Town striker Jack Marriott for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old finished as the Hatters' top scorer in 2015/16 with 16 goals, but had to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench for much of last season following the capture of Danny Hylton.

Former Ipswich Town trainee Marriott has agreed a four-year deal at the ABAX Stadium and Posh beat off competition from The Championship to secure his signature.

I believe it is a good coup for us because there were a couple of Championship clubs in for him.

Ever since I started talking with him, he wanted to come and join us and credit to the boy for that.

I think everyone at the club deserves a lot of credit for getting this deal done. I am looking forward to working with him.

Meanwhile, chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed the club have rejected a double bid from League One rivals Bristol Rovers for strikers Tom Nichols and Luke James.

22-year-old James spent last season on loan at the Memorial Stadium, but failed to score, while Nichols used to play in the West Country for Exeter City.

MacAnthony also confirmed on Twitter that Posh are talking to an SPL club about the possible sale of Shaquile Coulthirst who's currently on the transfer list.

In other news, new signing Ricky Miller will miss the first six games of next season through suspension.
