Pedestrian dies after being hit by marked police van in Norfolk

A woman who was critically injured when she was hit by a marked police van in Norfolk has died in hospital.

It happened on the B1135 on Wymondham Road at Hethel on Thursday evening (27 July).

The pedestrian, who was in her 50s, was airlifted to Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge in a helicopter piloted by the Duke of Cambridge, who was working his final shift for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Officers were responding to a 999 call following concerns for the safety of a woman who was missing when she was knocked down.

Police have confirmed it was that woman who was hit by the van.

The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
