Comedy show Alan Partridge is set to return to BBC Two, the channel has announced.

Plans for new episodes about Radio Norwich's best-known broadcaster, played by Steve Coogan, are in early stages, controller Patrick Holland told the Edinburgh International Television Festival.

Speaking about the return of the character the BBC said:

It's an exciting thing. The BBC is in need and who better? With Brexit and political unrest what broadcaster do we need to make sense of it all, but Partridge?

Coogan's fictional character has been adopted by his "home" town of Norwich - with fans staging a successful campaign to hold the World Premiere of Coogan's film Alpha Papa in the city's Anglia Square.
