A dog has been rescued after being abandoned in an overturned car found crashed into a ditch in Essex.

The RSPCA is now trying to find a new home for 1-year-old Bugsy who is described as "terrified of everything, even fluffy toys."

The terrified dog was found by police two weeks ago in Rettendon between Chelmsford and Southend in the car which had flipped over into a ditch.

The RSPCA is currently caring for Bugsy and treating it as an abandonment case.

“He was very skinny and absolutely terrified but is lucky not to have been seriously injured.

“He is such a sweet boy but is terrified of everything, even fluffy toys, so will need a calm and quiet home.”

"Bugsy is very friendly and likes people but can be very nervous and jumpy. He is quite sensitive to noise so staff would like him to go to a quiet, adult-only home.

"With time and patience and a new owner who can teach him that the world isn’t such a scary place, this young dog will make a wonderful companion and a lovely pet."

RSPCA Essex South, Southend & District Branch say they would like to find him a home with owners who can begin toilet training and basic training with him.

The RSPCA say the new owners would need be around with him most of the time at first to teach him it’s okay to be left alone.
