A hapless robber who was caught after he left his glasses at the scene of the crime has been jailed for seven years.

The court heard Wesley Grinham had a habit of losing his glasses, and claimed he'd had lost eight pairs in the space of a year.

Grinham, 31, from Wixams in Bedfordshire was found guilty of robbery after a four day trial at Luton Crown Court.

He stole £70,000 from a man who'd just sold his house after breaking the window of his car and demanding the cash.

After the robbery the victim noticed a pair of glasses in the car that didn’t belong to him.

He gave them to police and DNA tests matched a sample from Grinham.

In interview, Grinham told officers that he had lost around eight pairs of glasses in the past year, but suggested that someone else must have used a pair as a disguise to commit the robbery.

He was also found guilty of two counts of possession of class A drugs, and was sentenced to a further 12 months imprisonment to run concurrently.

Throughout the trial Grinham failed to take responsibility for his actions, pleading not guilty even though evidence placed him at the scene.

“I hope the sentence received by Grinham gives the victim some sense of justice, and gives Grinham time to reflect on his actions. I hope it also demonstrates to others that crime doesn’t pay.”
