Work has begun to install new track at Kelvedon in Essex that to increase the reliability of train services on the Norwich to London line.

Sections of track that guide trains from one track to another were installed last weekend (30 September – 1 October) and another two will be installed this coming weekend.

Network Rail say over time the track becomes worn from constant use, especially on the busy main line, and needs to be replaced to improve reliability of services.

Greater Anglia passengers are not expected to be delayed by the ongoing work.

Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director, said: “We’ll make sure customers can complete their journeys while this vital work is taking place. We’ll have about 50 buses a day and extra staff at stations to make sure customers catch the right bus on each day.”

The work continues this weekend on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October and the following weekend on Sunday 15 October only.

Rail replacement bus services will be in place, including a direct bus between Witham and Colchester and a separate local service which will stop at Kelvedon and Marks Tey.
