A 10-year-old girl from Colchester met Prince Harry last night as she received a national award.

Katie Ward, who has a rare bone condition, was nominated for the WellChild award after she set up her own video blog.

"It's one thing your mum telling you that you're amazing, but I think if a panel of other people have looked at you and said you're amazing, it's nice. I felt she deserved it."

Katie's mother Ruth told ITV News Anglia that her daughter has to deal with a lot of pain.

She entered Katie because the awards are for inspirational children and says that despite her condition, Katie has learnt to swim.

"She can swim 100m unaided, which I think is just amazing. She runs her own YouTube channel, she doesn't just sit and feel sorry for herself, she gets on with life and that is why I think she is so inspirational."

Katie was born with a condition causing a short stature and was later paralysed below the rib-cage following spinal surgery. She has a number of serious health issues and is tube fed.

"For the awards I'm wearing this navy dress with flowers on it and I'm not quite sure what I'm going to say to Prince Harry yet."
