A firework was fired at a young boy as he rode his bike in a Hertfordshire town on Saturday night.
The 12-year-old boy was making his way along Chaucer Way in Hoddesdon at around 6.30pm when a Vauxhall Corsa passed him.
A firework was then fired from inside the car and hit the victim - leaving him with burns to his face, neck and hands.
His injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening and he's now recovering at home.
“Luckily the victim did not suffer serious injuries in this case but it must have been a very frightening experience nonetheless, and it could have easily had a very different outcome," Detective Constable Martin Sturgess said.
“I am aware of posts on social media in relation to this incident and I want to reassure the community that we have launched an investigation and are currently looking at all lines of enquiry.
"I want to take this opportunity to ask that members of the public do not speculate on any online forums as this may jeopardise the investigation."
