  • Exeter City 3-1 Heybridge Swifts

Essex part-timers Heybridge Swifts have been knocked out of the FA Cup, but emerged with plenty of credit following a brave display at League Two side Exeter City.

Heybridge, who play in the eighth-tier, made their opponents work hard for their victory and Exeter had to wait until just before the hour mark to open the scoring through Jayden Stockley.

Stockley then added another shortly afterwards to extend the gap, before midfielder Sam Bantick pulled one back to make things interesting.

Substitute Liam McAlinden wrapped up the game with four minutes remaining, but Heybridge and their 287 travelling fans will have been proud of their efforts.

  • Cambridge United 1-0 Sutton United

Elsewhere, Cambridge United made it safely through to round two after seeing off last season's giantkillers Sutton United.

Sutton made it all the way to the fifth round last year before eventually losing to Arsenal, but Cambridge proved to be too strong on this occasion.

The U's did it with 10 men too after George Maris was sent off just before half-time for simulation.

Striker Jabo Ibehre proved to be the matchwinner, as he scrambled home the rebound after Jevani Brown had hit the bar.
