Elderly woman thrown to the ground in shocking Norwich robbery

Police have released shocking CCTV footage of a woman in her 70s being thrown to the ground and robbed in broad daylight in Norwich.

It follows a series of robberies in the city where thieves are targeting elderly people.

The footage shows one of the attacks near the Belvedere Community Centre on Belvoir Street, where a woman had her bag stolen by a man riding a bike.

The thieves have struck five times just this month with their victims ranging from in their 70s to their 90s.

The following incidents have taken place in the last two weeks:

  • · Friday 3 November around 9.55am where a woman, aged in her 80s, has been robbed of her red shopping bag by a man riding a bike in Brightys Opening.
  • · Saturday 11 November shortly before 1.30pm where a 72-year-old woman, who was standing at a bus stop in Margaret Paston Avenue, had her handbag stolen by a man who was riding a bike.
  • · Monday 13 November sometime between 9.45am and 10.05am where a man riding a bike has stolen a bag from a woman, aged in her 90s, in Distillery Square.
  • · Tuesday 14 November around 4.40pm in Ampthill Street where a woman in her 70s has been robbed of her handbag.

Officers are urging witnesses or anyone with information to contact Det Con Emma Gray on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
