Armed police to keep shoppers safe at Christmas market

It's worth three quarters of a million pounds to the region and, for many of its 120 thousand visitors each year, it's a sign that Christmas is nearly here.

The Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre has kicked off having grown into the biggest event of its kind in the region.

But that popularity has a sting in its tail this year. For the first time, armed police have been deployed to offer extra security due to the current climate of international terror threats, though they stress there's no intelligence to suggest any particular threat in Bury itself.
