Milton Keynes' first ever illuminated Boat Festival is taking place this weekend with 10,000 people going along to take a look.

The two day event is being held at Campbell Park as part of Milton Keynes' 50th birthday celebrations.

Twenty six decorated boats left from the Lionhearts Cruising Club and Milton Keynes Marina and headed towards Campbell Park in a parade along the Grand Union Canal.

The event was organised by the Canal & River Trust charity and aims to show off the waterways and encourage more people to visit them.

This weekend's illuminated boat festival has been a massive success and we want to thank every one who came out onto the canal and enjoyed watching the illuminated parade and seeing the festively lit boats. This is the first time the Canal & River Trust has held this event in Milton Keynes and we’re delighted we had the opportunity to show off the canal to local people during this special birthday year for the town.
