Police becoming 'increasingly concerned' for welfare of missing Gorleston woman

Police in Norfolk say they are becoming "increasingly concerned" for the welfare of a woman in her 20s who has been missing since the early hours of Boxing Day.

Sophie Smith, 21, went missing from her home in Avondale Road, Gorleston, at around 3am on Tuesday.

A major search operation is taking place for a second day, but no trace of her has been found so far.

Sophie is described as being white, about 5ft 8, of a slim build with shoulder length blonde hair.

It's believed she was wearing a blue vest top and white shorts when she left the house.

The University of East Anglia, where Sophie is a student, said in a statement:

"All our thoughts are with Sophie, her family and her friends.

"Our paramount concern is for Sophie’s safety and welfare and we would urge anyone who may have information about her whereabouts to contact Norfolk Police on 101."
