An investigation will be launched into the police handling of a 36-year-old woman who was stabbed to death in Essex last month.

Suzanne Brown was found unconscious at a property in Mountbatten Court, Braintree, just after midnight on 16 December 2017.

She later died at the scene and a man has been charged on suspicion of murder.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) will examine how Essex Police responded to an emergency phone call raising concerns for welfare on the evening of Friday 15 December 2017.

It is important we establish the facts surrounding whether the actions of police staff and police officers were appropriate and in keeping with training and policy.

As has been widely reported, Essex Police is separately conducting a murder investigation and a man has been charged with murder and remanded in custody.

Essex Police informed the IOPC of the incident and have now begun an independent investigation.

The IOPC investigation will examine the actions of police control room staff who handled and graded the call and the deployment and response of the officers who attended the address.

An inquest into Ms Brown's death was opened and adjourned on 21 December 2017.
