Children have been playing at Wicksteed Park in Kettering for nearly a hundred years.

Now the Northamptonshire Park is getting a £4.5 million facelift.

Building work has just started with the plan to celebrate the park's long history of play, by giving some of its original features a new lease of life.

"Well, Wicksteed is the home of children's play and I think the public are going to see a lot of the original features come back into the park. It's going to bring back memories, create a lot of nostalgia, the simple pleasures that people can enjoy today, just as they did a hundred years ago."

The park was founded in 1921 - by the engineer, Charles Wicksteed.

The project is part-lottery funded and will restore the original heart of the park. The central precinct and part of the historic pavilion are just some of the areas being refurbished.
