Twelve football fans were arrested at yesterday's East Anglian derby.

Nearly two thousand Ipswich fans made the trip to Carrow Road, where it finished one all after Norwich's late equaliser.

Police say the arrests were for criminal damage, assault and being drunk and disorderly - but they praised the 'good spirit' of most supporters.

"A number of fans were given direction to leave notices as a result of their behaviour; which was enough to cause concern for officers who took this reactive measure in a bid to prevent disorder.

"These supporters had been spoken to by police and were fully aware of the standards of behaviour expected, but sadly their conduct fell short of this resulting in police taking action."

After the match, police put cordons in place around the stadium to ensure fans could move safely from the ground.

Officers from Suffolk and British Transport Police were also involved in the operation.

Seven supporters were arrested for criminal damage offences, three arrested for assaults and two fans were arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
