Open Farm Sunday: Raising awareness about how and where food is produced
Farms across the region opened their yards and barns to the public today to raise awareness about how and where our food is produced.
It's the twelfth year Open Farm Sunday has been held.
"People are often, well they are far away from farms. They see us riding around in summertime but to actually get on the combines, get on the tractors, they don't often get the chance so we love to be able to do that and actually to see the kids playing around on them and things like that - I love it. And if it can make them enjoy farming, understand more about farming and where they live, the environment they live in, then brilliant."
– Edd Banks, Manor farm, Harlton
"It's really important, nowadays, that everybody appreciates where their food comes from and the fact that so much of it is produced here in the UK and on farms exactly like Edd's. I think they are surprised by the complexity of it. The amount of investment which goes into producing high quality food, it's not done easily."
