Knu Dad: Danish World Cup team fly Jonas Knudsen home to see baby daughter

Jonas Knudsen had a double reason to celebrate his Denmark side's World Cup win over Peru - the birth of his daughter

But his team mates sprang a special surprise - by having a whip round to rent a private jet to send him home to see his new little girl.

The Ipswich defender's wife Trine gave birth to a girl several weeks earlier than expected, after he had arrived in Russia for the tournament.

The news was broken by Danish newspaper B.T.

Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and Yussuf Poulsen were behind the idea. Schmeichel told the paper

"We are football players, but we are also people. I'm a father and I can hardly imagine how difficult it was for Jonas to get the message without being able to be there. So there was no doubt that as a team we would help him. We have many fathers in the squad, and sometimes you have to look beyond the football and look at the human. We would have done anything for him to be able to his newborn child."

Knudsen spent a day with his daughter before returning to the World Cup squad on Monday.
