Police launch rape investigation

Police have sealed off the area around River Walk Credit: ITV Anglia

Police have launched an investigation following reports of a rape in Witham.

They were called at around 12.15am this morning, July 21, after a woman was attacked near River Walk.

It is believed to have happened around 20 minutes before the call was made.

The victim is being supported by specialist officers. No arrests have been made.

“This incident will clearly cause alarm and concern among residents. “I have a dedicated team of detectives working exclusively on this investigation and we will do everything we can to support the victim and try to identify who is responsible for this attack. “We would like to reassure the community that as soon as we have further details about the circumstances of the incident, we will share these.”

The cordon in Armond Road and River Walk will remain in place for the rest of the day.

People will also see an increased police presence in this area of Witham. This is to provide reassurance to local residents and to further the investigation.
