'Interesting plants with a strong smell' dug up by police at beach

Police in Suffolk found what appear to be cannabis plants growing on the beach at a genteel seaside town.

According to the Halesworth Police twitter feed, PCSO Ben Hedley-Lewis made the discovery at Southwold on Friday.

In a post on the social media site, the force described the plants as "interesting.... with a strong smell and dubious origin".

They were immediately dug up.

Suffolk Police said they would be happy to speak to the "gardener" who planted them, if they wanted to claim them.
